Our Model

The plight of technical schools seems to always get caught up in a balance between providing effective education and job placement.  It becomes a sort of game for some who find that it may not be consistently possible to maintain both of those dynamics by means of traditional practice.  

The times are changing and any school or educational entity who wishes to be recession proof will need to change with them.  Some schools face the staffing challenge of balancing the budget by hiring instructors who come in at the right price but cannot provide true up to date current education.  Other schools, especially in the fields of music and film advertise the feature of celebrity level instructors.  The problem they face is that these individuals are too busy in their own career environments and do not have the time to become a true mentor to the student.

Even more importantly is the never ending question of job placement.  Some schools have found themselves having to justify their placement promises by claiming “gigs” that last a day or two as a placement number just to satisfy the state education regulatory guidelines or the Work Force Commission’s requirements.  The consequences for them are that the school runs the risk of being shut down.

So where does this leave the student who has dreams of being successful in their dream job?  Many students work hard and some learn their skill sets to the point that they rise to the top of their class.  They make up about 10% of their class.  Many of those students possess other strong qualities that will help them shine and persevere until they reach their destination.  It also becomes easy for the school to think of them first when finding appropriate job placement.  After all, they need success stories to sell to the next incoming group of potential students.  

So what happens to the other 90%?  In the current traditional model, some make it through school, receive a certificate of completion or degree, and go about the task of looking for work.  The majority fined that in specialized fields such as music, graphic arts, acting, and more the communities are often too small in the local area to support that many jobs or the businesses that saturate the pond of possible employees are too small to support paying an individual more than $10k for the year.  

Those students who are not resilient enough, robust enough, rich enough, or simply subject to life circumstances become discouraged.  Many discover that in order to achieve their goal, they will need to establish their own business and own their own equipment to create a niche’ in the market place.

Then comes the unfortunate reality for some: “I can’t afford it”.  The student realizes that all they have to show for their skill is a super huge student loan to pay back.  Debt becomes the master of destiny.  Those students forget about their passion and pursue other less rewarding work in order to survive.

This is why we decided to rework the model by making the educational component more affordable and reachable while for many including the tools needed to penetrate their market effectively.  The model is on point to making both our programs and our student’s recession proof.
